Fixing Reduced Hi-Hat CC Range

Contains troubleshooting and workaround information for instances where e-kit drum modules are not sending a full 0-127 CC range.

Updated 18 secs ago

If your e-kit hi-hat is not triggering the full range of hi-hat articulations, the most common reason is that your drum module is sending a limited MIDI CC range. While some drum modules only output a reduced range (for example, 0–90), MixWave libraries utilize the complete 0-127 CC range.

Adjusting Module Settings

Before using any workaround, we strongly recommend the following preliminary steps:

  • Calibrate Your Hi-Hat

Many drum modules have a built-in hi-hat calibration function. Running a full calibration often restores the expected CC behavior.

  • Adjust the Hi-Hat CC Range

Some modules allow you to configure the output CC range of the hi-hat pedal. If possible, set this range to 0-127.

Calibration steps, CC range settings, and menu names vary between manufacturers and models. Please refer to your module’s user manual for detailed instructions on performing hi-hat calibration and adjusting CC output settings.

Remap CC Multi Script Workaround

If your module does not support a full 0–127 CC range or does not provide settings to adjust it, you can use a Kontakt Multi Script to remap the incoming CC data as a workaround.

Installing Remap CC Multiscript

  1. Download the Remap CC Multiscript preset here: Remap CC.nkp

  2. Place Remap CC.nkp in the following directory:

Documents > Native Instruments > [Kontakt Version] > presets > Multiscripts

  3. Open Kontakt and click the KSP icon on the left side of the Multi Rack header.

If you do not see this in newer Kontakt versions, go to View > Classic View to show the Multi Rack header.
  4. Click Preset > User > Remap CC to load the multi script.

Using Remap CC

  1. Close the hi-hat by pressing the pedal completely down

  2. While keeping the pedal closed, click Detect to begin the calibration

  3. Slowly release the pedal from fully closed to fully open, allowing it to move through its entire physical range

  4. After reaching fully open, click Detect again to stop

  5. Click Compress to finalize the CC remapping

FAQ

Is the Remap CC script required to use the library?
No. You only need this workaround if your module cannot output a CC range of 0–127. If your module already sends the full range, this script is not required.
If I need the script, do I have to load it every time?
Yes. The script must be active whenever your module’s CC range needs to be remapped.
Remap CC isn't appearing under the Presets dropdown menu
Please make sure Kontakt is completely closed before placing the Remap CC.nkp file into the Multiscripts folder. Kontakt only scans for Multi Script presets when it launches.
Can I save this setup for future sessions?
Yes. Any of these methods will let you recall the remap configuration without having to set it up from scratch every time: - Save your DAW project with Kontakt and the Multi Script already loaded. - Save a Kontakt Multi (.nkm) that includes both the instrument and the Remap CC Multi Script. - Save the script as a user preset (it will remain available under Preset > User) so you can quickly re-load it in other projects.
